Personalizing your brand through social media allows you to show the uniqueness of your brand or product. How do you do this ?
First, knowing a little about social media platforms such as Twitter and Facebook are a start. On these sites, users can share your content with others which circulates your brand name to a potentially whole new audience.
How do you start using Twitter ?
Start tweeting ! Use your Twitter account to share useful content. Useful content is content that has a high chance of being circulated through retweeting and increases your chances of new followers.
What content should you be tweeting?
In order to gain followers, be consistent in what you tweet. Make sure what you are tweeting relates to your brand or has a natural relationship to what you are marketing on-line. The content can deviate a little, for example I recently tweeted about the controversial “Is the dress blue and black or white and gold?” – If you are wondering what I just referred to, it has nothing to do withKim Kardashian.
Adding tweets that are popular or go viral in between what your normal content is a good thing to do. It gives users a chance to find you on Twitter and if they have interest in what you are marketing, you may gain new followers. Each new follower brings a new audience to your world.
Definitely tweet about any promotion or contest your business to running or if you plan on volunteering in community service, tweet about how others can get involved.
Now that you are tweeting, what else can you do ?
Have you set up your site with Google Maps ?
In order to use Google, – which according to Ian Cleary at Razor Social, Google is used for over 70% of internet searches, – you need a Google account. Set up a simple GMAIL account for free to get started and take advantage of Google’s platforms.
Is your website linked to local search sites like Yelp? Visitors search for business and services to find a local business so be sure to link into any of the appropriate sites that relate to your business.
Do you have a Blog?
Creating a blog with original content is an excellent source for tweeting content. Be sure to link your blog to your website. Have a page visitors can click on to view your blog posts. Tweet out your posts on Twitter as well. Consider allowing visitors to leave comments to create discussion. A blog in itself can drive traffic to your website. A case study by Social Media Contractorsshows how blogging increased this organization’s web traffic by 15%. When this company decreased their blogging, the traffic decreased with it. Consistent blogging creates momentum for your on-line presence.
Make sure you have social share buttons on your website. What are social share buttons ?
Those little icons for Twitter, Facebook, Pinterest, YouTube, LinkedIn, Tumblr and others. If you use WordPress.org , there’s a plugin for that. If you use WordPress.com, under the Tools menu in the Dashboard, go to Sharing Settings and the first part of the page allows you to link your own social media sites to your website. Scroll down to bottom of page to see the Sharing Button section. Here you can enable the social share buttons and choose how you would like them to display on your site.
Other ways to use social media to make your website more engaging is to embed videos from YouTube. You can easily create your own YouTube site and embed your own videos. Be careful if you decide to embed a video by someone else. If they decide to pull their video off the channel your post will be left without that link.
Making a video is easier than you may think. First, it should be short, between 1 and 3 minutes long. Think of making a video that visitors are searching for. A demonstration on how to do something, new gadgets in your industry and short interviews are several ideas for embedding a video.
Does your business have a Facebook Page ? Adding a Facebook page is a way to allow followers to ‘Like’ your business. When followers like your business page, that goes into their newsfeed and their followers see it, generating endless possibilities of a vast audience, all for free too!
There are many more ways to use Social Media and not just have that website hanging out on the vast web. Ask your social media consultant about more ways social media can help your site!
