Analyzing the “Stats” is an important part of SEO. If you take the time to gather the info and don’t bother learning how to analyze it, you just wasted a whole lot of time. So, how do you anaylze “Stats” ?
Here are a few key terms to know –
Bounce Rate – this will show you how soon visitors are leaving your site once they arrived. If you notice they are leaving soon after they arrive you may need to rework Keywords or change some formatting of the site.
Dead Pages – these are pages that you may have deleted and for whatever reason you still have a link in your site to them so they can still be accessed. Change this immediately if you come across dead pages.
Referrals – this is as simple as it sounds. Are other websites referring visitors to your site ? You may want to know what sites are doing this and offer to work with those sites if they are in line with what you are doing.
Trend Lines – these stats will show you when the biggest numbers were for visits and pages. See where your low trends and high trends are. Try to find out what visitors connected with and continue on that way. Discover your low trends and change that direction for content.
Last tip for today, USE KEYWORDS CAREFULLY –
What is a “Keyword” ? These are words visitors are typing in internet searches. In other words, when folks “Google” something, they are using keywords to discover the content they seek.
How do you use Keywords ?
To use effective keywords, try to narrow your topic from a broad word to a more specific word to include in your site’s content. For example, if you are selling pet supplies, narrow that topic down to a more specific topic such as xyz brand dog food. The result will be someone who is searching for XZY dog food has an easier chance at discovering your site.
Try to use keywords throughout your content but don’t overload your site with keywords as search engines see right through this and may penalize you for it.
Be sure to include keywords in your <title tags> and try to put them near the beginning of your tag.
Make sure your keywords are relevant. If you are selling pet supplies and use keywords for searches that are looking for the local dog groomer, that would be misleading and result in a lower ranking for your site, so please avoid doing that. Enough said.
Include long-tail keywords – this is a phrase of keywords, usually between three and four words that give you more opportunity to describe your product or service in a more precise way to allow it a better chance to show up in a search and result in a visit to your site.
