Successful Social Media Tip of the Day . . . It’s a New Year So Reset Your Social Media Goals
The party is over, time to get back to work and back to our routines for many of us.
Remember when you set New Year’s resolutions for yourself ? or maybe you didn’t but don’t you think it is a good time to set new Social Media Resolutions for your business?
This is the opportune time to get your social media machine back on track with your new resolve to make social media work for you ! Here are a few tips to get you back on track . . .
First, think about why you are using social media for your business? Your customers are using it, your competitors are using it and being seen by your customers, so you need to use social media. Take a few moments to view your competitors and make note of a few items such as –
– discover what their most engaging content is
– what are their most shared posts about
– where are they most successful, is it Twitter, Instagram or Pinterest
-get to know how your target audience tweets, when do they tweet
-follow the companies that are most successful in your field
Next, develop a goal plan and write it down so you can review it periodically so when your business goals change, you can reflect those changes in your social media goals. Make sure your goal list will be measurable. Be specific about the results you want to obtain. Some goals you may want to consider may be –
-measuring link sharing, increasing subscriptions, sales or followers
-increase in brand presence on social media
Once you know your goals, create a content or posting calendar. There are many tools out there to help with that. CoSchedule is an easy to use content calendar tool or try Klout which will schedule and measure your engagement success. In creating your content calendar keep in mind these few things –
– assign specific topics to team member to post about
– decide when the posting times will occur
– decide if you will promote the content and based on what facts will you decide this
– how often do you want to post on each social media site
-have team members post to a specific social media platform consistently
Review all your social media profiles to make sure they line up with your brand message and are consistent in what you represent. If you are just getting started with social media profiles, keep your goals in mind when building a profile. Make sure they are filled out completely and that any profile photos you use are of good quality and are the same across all your social media sites.
Your social media networks are an ebb and flow that will change over time so knowing what that ebb and flow is will put you ahead of the game. Use analytics to discover how your post are being shared, who you are engaging with and are you on the right track with your target audience.
Try to remember your social media sites need attention. There are so many social media platforms to join but do the research to find out where you will be most effective. If you do not have the time to maintain all your sites, it is a better choice to pick the ones that you can keep active which should also be the social media sites that serve your target audience.
As the frigid weather sets in, our daylight hours will slowly progress so stay warm, renew those New Years social media resolutions and keep posting on !
